Eco-innovation: Using ingredients from regenerative agriculture

A source of innovation and value creation, eco-design is an approach that helps reduce negative environmental impacts, based on product life-cycle analysis.

One of the levers for eco-design of a cosmetic product is the choice of ingredients that have less impact through their agricultural origin. In this article, we look at the choice of ingredients from regenerative agriculture.

Did you know that the agricultural and forestry sector is both an emitter and a sink for greenhouse gases?
Regenerative agriculture is a vision of agriculture that places particular emphasis on soil protection to sequester carbon and increase biodiversity.

It is based on 6 key principles:
- Minimize tillage,
- Diversify crops,
- Keep the soil covered with living plants or their residues,
- Live roots all year round,
- Integrate animals,
- Adopt social responsibility.

Very few cosmetics brands communicate on the use of this type of agriculture in their choice of active ingredients.

I found the American brand Thrive Natural Care, which has built its brand message around the use of active ingredients derived from regenerative plants and helping local farmers to breathe new life into degraded farmland in Costa Rica.

Their latest launch REVIVE EYE STICK uses two regenerative plants, Patens and Chica, in addition to cosmetic actives for the eye contour area.
It comes in a cardboard stick that requires finger pressure on the underside to hold it in place during use.
